Gil
Troy is Professor of History at McGill
University in Montreal. A native of Queens, New York, and
a graduate of Solomon Schechter Day School there, he
received his bachelors, masters, and doctoral
degrees in History from Harvard University. He was a
member of Young Judaea, the largest Zionist Youth
movement in America for many years, and worked at Camp
Tel Yehudah throughout the 1980s.
His two previous books
were on American history: Mr. and Mrs. President:
From the Trumans to the Clintons, and See How
They Ran: The Changing Role of the Presidential Candidate.
From 1997 to 1998 he served as chairman of McGills
history department and in March, 1999 was promoted to
full professor.
Troy's column The Ivory Tower, appears monthly in
the New York Jewish newspaper, The Forward. He has also
published articles recently in the New York Times,
the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post,
Newsday, the New York Post, the Montreal
Gazette, the National Post, Moment
magazine, and the Canadian Jewish News,
among others.
He has appeared as a commentator on most
major Canadian and American television networks and was
the regular Monday Columnist, putting current affairs in
broader perspective, for CBC-TVs "Midday
Show," until the shows cancellation in July,
2000. Troy is also the chairman of the Montreal
birthright israel committee.
